On Saturday January 7th, 2012 react energy plus participated in the FLIPANY Fun Run 10K and 5K event and Health Fair and helped raise funds for FLIPANY and their programs.  The event was part of the kick off for the countywide Let’s Move Broward initiative, part of Lady Obama’s Let’s Move platform.  Relive Research & Development, Corp. (RRD Corp) the founder of Conscious Sports Nutrition and creator of react energy plus natural fat burner, sponsored several runners and gave out samples of their all natural energy boost and performance enhancement supplement react energy plus to all participants and supporters.  RRD Corp will continue its react reduce recycle initiative supporting health of the individual and health of the environment through further event sponsorships and productions throughout the year.

React energy plus athelete Alex Ceril was the mens overall winner in the 10K with a time of 39:8.9 minutes (6:20 minutes/mile pace).  Wow!

Also placing first in competitive mens catagory ages 18-24 for the 10K was react energy plus athlete Paul Ruesta with an official time of 40:07.2 minutes (6:28 minutes/mile pace).  Congrats!

Also stopping by the react energy plus table were a group of Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, who were very interested in the new natural way to increase their energy and keep their bodies lean and toned.  Thanks girls!

You may have attended our ECOMB (Environmental Coalition of Miami and the Beaches) fundraiser or participated in the Sunrise on South Beach 5K presented by react energy plus and been introduced to “react reduce recycle” as a slogan for taking action towards more environmentally conscious behaviors.  It also applies just as strongly to our own physical health and fitness that we need to be caring about and taking action for.  Please read!

Living sustainably and respecting the environment and our place in it does not have to be a sacrifice.  In addition to developing natural nutritional supplements for increased human performance, health and vitality, Relive Research & Development, Corp’s mission is to develop and initiate projects and programs to increase awareness of our civilization’s responsibility for our own health and the health of Mother Nature.  Problems need to be addressed by consumers, businesses, and government working together to ask for and provide the conscious choice.  Then action needs to be taken, not just talk and intentions.

brown rice is better because…

So you’ve heard that brown rice is better for you than white rice, right?  I hope… if you haven’t…then also check out this thing called facebook!  lol!  Making a conscious choice to go brown rice will improve every aspect of your health, especially fitness and natural fat burning efforts and the quest for a lean efficient body.  Brown rice is nutritionally superior to white rice, just like whole wheat bread is better than white bread, and for the exact same reasons.  White and brown rice start out as exact nutrition equals, the difference between the two occurs in processing, whereas brown rice is minimally processed and not treated with chemicals, bleaching agents or high heat, white rice, by contrast is highly processed and most of its nutritional value is removed, including rich amounts of B vitamins, manganese, phosporous, iron, all dietary fiber, and essential fatty acids.  White rice, as like many other things that are changed just for appearance, is virtually worthless, except for calories…carbohydrate calories that would love to just be stored as fat on your body…yum.

Fiber may be the most obvious difference between brown and white…with brown actually having fiber and white not.  Fiber is one of the most important and least consumed components of a healthy diet, hugely lacking in the American lifestyle which we can get more detailed about at another time.  Some of the minerals you get with brown rice also deserve a note: 

Manganese helps produce energy from protein and carbohydrate and is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol, and is also a strong part of the antioxidant enzyme caledd SOD or superoxide dismutatse which helps fight off free radicals. 

Brown rice also has selenium, a trace mineral that is at the active site of many proteins and is essential to thyroid hormone metabolism, antioxidant defense systemsn, and immune function.

Enough reason to order that roll with brown rice instead of the regular sushi rice yet?  Or to make the choice in the grocery store?  More….

Sunrise on South Beach 5K -react reduce recycle

September 18th, 2011 marked the inaugural Sunrise on South Beach 5K benefit for ECOMB (Environmental Coalition of Miami and the Beaches) and call to action for environmental care “react, reduce, recycle”. The call was answered and is well illustrated by the group of people, sponsors and supporters who came together for a successful fundraising event for ECOMB and great vibe and workout at sunrise that morning. Thank you to all who came or supported in some way! And to those who only thought about it or made other choices that day and that week, I hope you will still react, reduce, recycle (I will post more about the initiative and its principles) and be able to join us for the next Sunrise on South Beach 5K.  The event was presented by react energy + sports nutrition and supported by Tropics natural infusions, Equinox Fitness, Form First Running, Centerline Therapy and Wellness, Sweat Republic, Zico Coconut Water, Venga Rehydrate, Activate Drinks, Southern Bear, Gansevoort Rooftop, STK, Big Pink, Bellini Italian Bistro, Primetime, Team in Training South Florida, and all who put their energy into it mentally and physically.

There are many human behaviors and habits that have separated us from our connection with nature we need in order to continue our life on this earth. Living in South Florida, we have a lot of tourists and residents themselves are transient, so it seems that no one wants to take any responsibility for the community and the environment here.  Interestingly enough, the beauty of our environment…the shoreline and ocean, the miles of sandy beaches, the beautiful palm trees and parks…is why people come here in the first place.  It is what we gaze at on vacation or after work to calm us and bring us present with appreciation of the beauty.  Well, now I am making a call to action for that beauty, for that connection to that beauty….for Mother Earth as she shows herself to us in South Florida.  Please consider participating and/or donating to this campaign.

5K Race and Fun Run for Clean Beaches and Recycling Programs

The event will showcase a recently cleaned and beautified beach (taking place on the day after International Coastal Cleanup Day) or may also illustrate the magnitude of our problem if it is already carelessly littered after one day. HIV vs Obesity

The HUGE obesity epidemic we are dealing with in America needs serious effort and sustainable local programs that can be replicated around the country in small cities as well as big cities.  Not only does the increase in obesity and childhood obesity indicate a lack of action and activity, it shows a deficiency of awareness and education, and it signals a much worse problem of an oblivious society that doesn’t realize or care about the repurcussions of its behavior.  Is the epidemic of obesity and the obesity-related deaths, illnesses and accidents any less severe than deaths and illnesses caused by HIV/AIDS??  Obesity may not be directly transmitted, but the behaviors that most often lead to it are certainly contagious and spread through families, communities, and businesses.  This is serious inertia we are working against.

Over 2/3rds of the population is overweight or obese…isn’t that shocking enough for the media to grasp??  Perhaps the sold advertisements and fast food commercials slow down their reaction??  These days, you don’t quite see as many gyms as fast food places or as many healthy food shops as convenience stores, but they are out there and there are a few people trying to do the right thing…these are our leaders in the fight.  These have to be our educators and people have to become aware of this and participate.   What if 2/3rds of the population was HIV positive?  What if they were HIV positive and didn’t even have a clue what that meant, what a virus was, or how it was transmitted?  Would they be able to change their behaviors and reduce the incidence of AIDS related death and stop the progression of HIV through the community and into future generations?? 

OK, we have a serious problem, but what can we do??  There is an organization I came across recently who is setting an example on how to address these concerns.  This particular organization, TRIAD Trust, works directly in Africa where 40% of the population IS HIV positive, where the current culture has lacked the education and has created counterproductive behaviors because they do not understand the problem they are dealing with (that’s just like us here in America with the obesity epidemic).  TRIAD has created a sustainable program using the uplifting and community building power of sports and arts (along with treatment) that is an example of how we need to attack obesity in our own country.

Action, Sustainablility…Change

“There are many ways to skin a cat!” However, you can bet there is one method that is most effective and efficient for getting the job done. (Don’t think about cats here) Modern day organizations or companies, whether they are non-profit or otherwise, have and follow a mission they form to address a certain situation and provide their solution through a method they have created or plan they have chosen. Some of these organizations are leaders, some are followers, some are creators, some are destroyers, some only make money, and some make a difference. Some will be widely successful (or at least appear to be) and popular, the medias choice, the critics choice, or your choice. One that sets a great example and who I support for the progressive way they approach and accomplish their mission is TRIAD Trust, so please read what they are about and be inspired. Or better yet, don’t just read and think about it, take action!! If it is not to join us at this upcoming event (check out the links below), then do something you have been thinking about doing for a charity that aligns with your experiences…do something for friend, a loved one, yourself, or your health. Just act!

And when you can create a way or habit to sustain your action then you can create change.

If body fat is stored energy, why do I feel lack of energy even though I have plenty of fat?

What is energy?

Energy can be described as the capacity for action and vigorous activity; the ability to do what it is you want to do.  When you have enough energy you feel great and enjoy life and accomplishments, and when you don’t have enough energy you are tired, inactive, unproductive, and eventually depressed and unable to function.  Energy is life.

Where does energy come from?

We consume energy in calories of foods, drinks, and food supplements.  Our body is able to process and utilize some of these calories and convert them to usable energy for daily activities and maintenance of our lean body mass (muscles, organs, bones, ligaments, and tissues).  We store the extra consumption of energy we don’t need or use in body fat at 9 calories per gram (approximately 3500 calories per pound).  The main pathway for producing usable energy from these calories is a series of enzymatic reactions called the citric acid cycle or Krebs cycle.  In this cycle, two-carbon organic units (from the breakdown of fats, carbohydrates, or proteins in the body) and oxygen from the air we breathe go in, and usable energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the bodies unit of energy, along with carbon dioxide and water are released.

 

How can I increase my energy?

Making a difference or making a profit, what is more valuable?

Nowadays we see many companies or individuals do what they need to do to make a profit and then get philanthropic after they have made millions at the expense of the environment or the health and livelihood of others (the consumer), but it doesn’t have to be so.  Hopefully some of you remember my May newsletter in which I included an introduction to the Himalyan Healers organization and an invite to a small fundraiser in Miami.  It is a small organization that struck a chord with me (and with many others here in the Miami area who supported our fundraiser) and reinforced the fact that with passion and action we can make a difference and create change in this world without the power of riches.  Himalayan Healers is the world’s first and only humanitarian organization that trains “untouchables” to become massage therapists in the healing arts, lifting them out of poverty and discrimination. 

Living at the absolute bottom of the social hierarchy, and considered as existing outside of the actual caste structure, are the “Untouchables” – those with the lowest income levels and the most labor intensive and unhygienic jobs. Members of the Untouchable castes are considered to be “impure” and “untouchable“, are restricted from entering the majority of community temples, have separate water supplies, and are deemed taboo to touch or be touched by.  They are born into these roles, and have extremely limited opportunities to move ahead, living day-to-day, hand-to-mouth simply to survive.  Himalayan Healers ironically flips the script on this injustice, teaching these Untouchables how to “touch”, and giving them the tools to work for a better future for their children.  As can be expected in going against the norm in any society, the project has dealt with resistance and the founder Rob Buckley also revealed he had even recieved death threats!!   And all this to make a difference not a profit.  How many of us would do that? 

Well, on May 22nd, we were proud to be a small part of the energy of the evening and contribute to the fundraising at the benefit put together by Siri and family at Atchana’s  in Coconut Grove by donating proceeds of REACT energy sales.   We were just informed from Rob Buckley, founder of Himalayan Healers that we were actually able to be part of the next step for Himalayan Healers.   Read Rob’s note here:
